One important code issue with these type of ATS’s is that they share neutrals. The factory provided switches must be reworked with added wires to meet code.
The breakers that share neutrals must also be put on two-pole breakers for safety.
Another important code and safety issue to consider is arc-fault breakers. They are required by the national electrical code because they stop parallel arcing faults and prevent fires. Inspectors will look for these, and good installers will put these in your new generator transfer switch if required.
